7 Things You Should Know about Virtual Worlds
A virtual world is an immersive online environment whose "residents" are avatars representing individuals who participate through the Internet. Many institutions are experimenting with virtual worlds for educational purposes. They may foster constructivist learning by placing students in a context that challenges them to learn without explicit learning objectives and assessment.

The National Driving Simulator at the University of Iowa uses interactive graphic display models to test driver reactions to adverse road conditions. A series of programs have been developed to actively engage drivers from many diverse groups. These programs test driving responses of teenagers, the elderly, distracted, vision impaired, and drunk drivers. Data collected from these tests are sampled and analyzed by research teams. The research is used to make safety recommendations to governmental agencies, car manufacturers, and other regulatory agencies.
